Background
Calvin Helin is one of Canada's most well-known
Aboriginal lawyers. He is the son of anscestral
Chief Niis-Loch-a-Noos of the Tsimshian Nation
(from British Columbia's north coast). He received
his law degree from the University of British
Columbia, and was called to the Bar in 1992.
Mr. Helin has been active in the creation and
direction of many not-for-profit organizations.
He is founding President of the Native
Investment and Trade Association, and founding
Vice President of the
National Aboriginal Business Association.
In addition Mr. Helin is President & CEO of NITA
HealthWEB Inc., and Orca Media Communications
Inc. He is also a former director of the Vancouver
Board of Trade.
Mr. Helin has extensive experience managing a
law group in a law firm. With substantial experience
in market and business development in a variety
of challenging contexts, he is well-recognized
nationally and internationally for innovative
development of specialized business models. He
has considerable experience in business and economic
policy development and developing strategic corporate
alliances with government and academia.
Mr. Helin has been recognized professionally by
being chosen as one of the top "40 Under 40" entrepreneurs
in British Columbia by Business in Vancouver,
and was also selected for the prestigious "Top
40 Under 40" national award (for "super achievers
in business, the professions, academia and public
service"), sponsored by The Financial Post Magazine
and other major Canadian corporations. In addition
to receiving numerous awards and distinctions,
he has been profiled extensively in various
media publications. He has also led international
trade missions to China and New Zealand, and is
the author of several publications relating to
law, and Aboriginal business issues.
